Dear Parents,

In the event of a school closure please try and follow the advice outlined below:

Literacy:

  • Reinforce and practise the 26 letter sounds. Play games e.g. Tell me 3 things beginning with “r”. Can you find me an object beginning with “t”?  What sounds do the foods on your plate begin with?

I have included sound worksheets. Your child has been given their purple phonic book to practise sounds each day.

  • Please continue to practise and reinforce your child’s keywords. Children are aware that some words are “sounding” words and our sounds can be used to read them while other words are “tricky” words. Each child was given a copy of the first 50 keywords. Please practise and reinforce each day. I have also included keyword worksheets to help reinforce keywords.
  • We have begun to read and write CVC words in class. Most children are beginning to read and write words with 3 letters, using their knowledge of letter sounds. Encourage your child to practise this skill. Call out simple words for your child to write e.g. pig, cat, bin, cot, sun, pen etc.
  • We are busy forming letters correctly in class (lower case). Encourage your child to continue to do so using a selection of markers, pencils, pens etc. I have included a letter formation sheet, showing where to begin each letter.
  • Please read to your child. This is the single most important thing you can do. Ask them questions about the story, encourage them to make simple predictions, discuss characters, settings and talk about rhyming words.
  • Encourage your child to colour, paint, cut and stick, play with dough, Lego etc. These activities will help to build up their hand muscles, needed for writing skills.
  • Continue to develop your child’s imagination. Play shop, café, doctors etc.

Numeracy

  • Each child was given a set of number cards 1-20. Please use these to reinforce numbers to 10 and extend to 20 when ready.
  • Practise reading, writing and ordering numbers
  • Reinforce our formation number rhymes.
  • Reinforce the language before, after and in between.
  • We have started to combine/add 2 sets of objects together. I have included some starter worksheets to reinforce this area of learning.
  • Go on shape hunts around your home.
  • Sing number songs and rhymes.
  • Count out sets of numbers
  • Try to include number in everyday life.

Please see sheet for useful websites for online learning games.

Thank you for your continued support and remember learning can be fun!!!!
