P3

Miss Brolly

Dear Parents,

Please find below some educational strategies and activities to work on at home with your child. Also, I have included a comprehensive list of educational websites where you will find activities and games related to what we have been learning in Primary 3.

As well as this a pack will be sent home with your child to complete with the following resources. One Literacy activity and One Numeracy Activity per day is ample. If they can do a bit of reading as well every day, I cannot stress how important it is to keep reading.

1. 📚 Read , read and read some more.  If your child has brought their school reader home try to read over stories/ pages they have already completed. Try to ask questions such as who/ what / why / where / when / how to ensure comprehension. For older children encourage use of an age appropriate novel and set tasks around each chapter eg: character profile /dictionary work/ art work / summarise story in a 100 words.

2. Number Facts: Children from should use this time to consolidate their addition/subtraction/ multiplication tables. There are a fortune of YouTube channels with songs and poems to help make learning fun. Infants children could be revising their counting from 1-100 and also shapes/ patterns and sequencing.

3.  🖥🖨Older children could benefit from project work for example :The 1916 Rising/ Ancient Egypt / The Celts or their own topic in school. P3 have been exploring Chocolate. Websites such as www.scoilnet.ie are wonderful resources for projects. Ask your child to create an A4 poster documenting their learning with pictures and writing.

4. ✨ www.twinkl.co.uk has kindly offered a months free membership for teachers and parents. Every topic is covered here and for all ages . There’s crosswords / dictionary scavenger hunts / mindfulness colouring and much more.

5. 🤸🏻⛹🏻‍♀️Physical activity: Get outside for walks ,games, football etc. If the weather is bad look up The Body Coach on www.YouTube.com he has 2 series especially for children. Also try RTÉ 10@10 for ten minutes of fun for all the family. We do Go Noodle Brain Breaks and Kids’s Meditation every day in P3 which can also be found on Youtube.

6. 🧁Baking : Why not bake some treats and incorporate math through measurement , science through the baking process and then write about it after ( procedural writing: Literacy) Younger children could draw and sequence the steps.

7. Finally! Look for the silver lining ☁️ In the midst of all this uncertainty be thankful for each other and the extra time together.

Stay safe everyone,

 Miss Brolly xx
